The StorageTek® PowderHorn® 9310 tape library is the enterprise library of choice in many of the worlds largest data centers. Each silo can accommodate up to 1,200 terabytes native, which equates to approximately 2,400 terabytes for typical Open Systems applications and 3,600 terabytes for mainframe applications.
2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 or 6,000 per library storage module (LSM) Up to 24 LSMs per library (144,000 cartridges) under ACSLS Manager control Up to 16 LSMs per library (96,000 cartridges) under NCS control
2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 or 6,000 per library storage module (LSM)
Number of tape drives / types:
1-4 drive frames per LSM (stand-alone) Up to 2 drive frames per LSM in a dense pack configuration Each drive frame can be of any of the following: 1-20 T9x40 drives per frame, 2-4 TimberLine 9490 drives per frame.
Up to 4 stand-alone drive frames per LSM (20 drives/frame) Each drive frame can be of any of the following: 1-20 9x40 drives per frame, 2-4 TimberLine 9490 drives per frame.
Disaster recovery The PowderHorn 9310 library is an integral part of site-wide disaster recovery processes that remotely vault data in tape form. Tapes can be physically transported to a remote site, created electronically with a PowderHorn 9310 library at the remote location, or created simultaneously at both locations.
Offline processing The PowderHorn 9310 library configured with fast-access T9840 tape drives provides a cost-efficient option to disk for offline processing applications. Batch processing applications can share the PowderHorn library’s large capacity, raising tape asset utilization.
Archiving The PowderHorn 9310 library is an efficient, high-capacity repository for archival data. It can be configured with multiple classes of tape drives, and combined with disk systems and StorageTek Application Storage Manager® (ASM) software, to provide a tiered archival system with performance and capacity customized to the archiving needs of the application.
Backup and restore The high capacity PowderHorn 9310 library meets the backup and restore needs of the largest enterprise enterprises. Consolidating backup and restore to a single library reduces costs, simplifies management and improves reliability of backup and restore processes.
Benefits
Cost-effective data consolidation Platform neutrality enables you to share business-critical information among Windows NT, mainframe, UNIX and supercomputer systems—all from a centralized source.
Simplified management Scalability to 28.8 petabytes per library allows you to consolidate data in a single, centrally managed library, easing the strain on your over-burdened systems, budgets and IT staff.
Higher resource utilization With the addition of the StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager® (VSM) system you can use nearly 100 percent of the capacity of your tapes, unleashing the value trapped in under-utilized tapes.
Faster backup Scale each library up to 960 tape drives for over 100 terabytes per hour native throughput. This performance helps you respond to rapid data growth and shrinking backup windows.
Features
Standard features:
Mixed-drive support Use StorageTek T9840 or T9940 tape drives with native ESCON, Fibre Channel and SCSI interfaces. Support legacy 18- and 36-track systems with StorageTek TimberLine™ 9490 drives.
Pass-through-port (PTP) system The unique PTP system allows for up to 24 PowderHorn 9310 6,000-cartridge libraries to be connected, to provide scalability to 144,000 slots for your growing storage requirements.
Advanced robotics The PowderHorn 9310’s unique non-linear, 360-degree rotational robotics system provides excellent density and performance that scales upward as capacity is added.
Digital vision system A unique digital vision system performs continuous calibration and reads bar codes.
