Super DLT tape drives

The Super DLT (SDLT) tape drives are well suited for storing, archiving and backing up large volumes of data in midrange UNIX and Windows NT environments.. The SDLT 600 stores up to 300 gigabytes native data on a single cartridge, and is the first SDLT drive with native Fibre Channel connectivity. The SLDT 600 also offers write-once, read-many (WORM) capability that allows you to leverage the same drive and cartridge for both WORM and regular data. The SDLT 320 tape drive offers native capacity of up to 160 gigabytes per cartridge.

Business Continuance
The use of SDLT tape drives for backup and restore increases performance over previous-generation tape drives, shortening backup and recovery times. SDLT tape drives can be used in combination with other drives to match specific backup and restore performance and capacity needs.

Disaster recovery
SDLT tape drives are an integral part of disaster recovery processes that remotely vault data in tape form for recovery in case of disaster. Tapes can be physically transported to a remote site, created electronically with SDLT tape drives in a library at the remote location, or created simultaneously at both local and remote locations.

Archiving
SDLT tape drives are a practical choice for archiving growing volumes of business data. The higher capacity and transfer rates of SDLT tape drives shorten recall times and support aggressive archival growth rates over previous-generation tape drives.

Compliance
The WORM capability of the SDLT 600 tape drive can help you address the need to comply with government regulations and internal data retention policies that may require you to store information for years. The SDLT 600 allows you to leverage the same drive and cartridge for both WORM and regular data.

Features and IT BenefitsTop

Cost-effective capacity
The native capacities of up to 300 gigabytes per cartridge for the SDLT 600 and 160 gigabytes per cartridge for the SDLT 320 enable you to store more data with fewer storage resources and at a lower cost.

Faster backup/restore
The SLDT 600 tape drive delivers a sustained native data transfer rate of 36 megabytes per second, more than doubling the performance of the previous generation SDLT 320 tape drive. Increased performance helps you meet shrinking backup windows.

DLTSage
The DLTSage™ suite of management tools adds intelligence to the SDLT 600 tape drive. Through predictive and preventive maintenance diagnostic offerings, you can simplify and improve tape storage management.

WORM capability
Quantum’s DLTIce™ Storage Down Cold technology works in conjunction with DLTSage™ and the SDLT 600 tape drive to provide a versatile storage solution. You can leverage the same tape drive and standard media for help with regulatory compliance as well as traditional backup and archiving.

Interface compatibility
The SDLT 600 tape drive is available with two-gigabit optical Fibre Channel or LVD Ultra 160 SCSI interface. The SDLT 320 is available with the HVD or LVD SCSI interface.

Read/write compatibility
The SDLT 600 tape drive reads information stored on SuperDLTtape 1 cartridges. The SLDT 320 tape drive provides backward read/write compatibility with SDLT 220 tape drives. It is optionally backward-read compatible with multiple DLT technologies using DLTtape IV cartridges.

* The actions of the tape drive can be divided into four distinct phases:

Phase 1: Load time – the amount of time required to insert a cartridge in the drive, load the tape and prepare to read, write or search.:

Phase 2: Average file access time – the amount of time required to search from the beginning of the tape to the mid-point; does not include load time.:

Phase 3: Maximum rewind time – the amount of time required to rewind the tape from the end to the beginning of the tape. :
Phase 4: Unload time – the amount of time required to eject the cartridge from the drive.:

The average rewind time is the time to rewind a tape from the mid-point to the beginning or one-half of the maximum rewind time.:
