About the Show

Where does the show take place?
Young Americans takes place in the fictional town of New Rawley, MA.

Where is the show filmed?
Young Americans is filmed in and around Baltimore, Maryland. The scenes in the "town" (the gas station and the Friendly's) are filmed in Havre de Grace, MD. The scenes at the lake are filmed at Loch Raven, MD.

How do I go see them film? Can I be an extra?
Production has been completed on the first eight episodes, so they aren't filming now. If the show gets picked up and they go back to work, we'll let you know.

How long is the show going to be on?
The WB ordered eight episodes of Young Americans, which will air during July and August, 2000. If they decide to renew the show for more episodes, they will most likely air starting in January 2001 as a mid-season replacement.

When will we know if the show is renewed?
Probably some time around the end of August.

Are there going to be any Dawson's Creek characters on Young Americans?
Not during the first eight-week run. If the show is picked up, there is a possibility of crossovers.

Why is that girl pretending to be a guy? Why doesn't she just go to the girl's school across the lake?
Well, we kind of think that they're going to tell us more about that in the show, but right now it looks like she doesn't get a lot of attention from her parents, so she's doing it for the kicks and shock value.

How are Bella and Scout related? Are they really brother and sister?
In the pilot episode, Bella's father tells Scout that Scout's father and Bella's mother were involved when Scout's father was at Rawley Academy, and that Scout and Bella "can't be together". Bella and Scout have been told that they share the same father, and are half-brother and sister.

As for whether or not it's true... well, watch the show and find out!

Why does the gas station/Jake's room/the Town Square/Rawley Academy/etc look different in the pilot episode? Why does Jake's hair/Bella's father's hair/etc seem to change from scene to scene in the pilot?
The original presentation pilot was filmed in May, 1999 in Atlanta, GA. Different actors played Finn, Will's father, and Bella's father. When they started up production in Maryland in May, 2000, they had to reshoot some of the scenes that had the previous actors in them, and redo some of the locations. In some of the scenes, they only redid what they had to, so you can still see bits and pieces of the original sets and locations, and occasionally parts of the original actors! (If you look closely during the scene when Bella and Scout are dancing outside the gas station, you can see that Bella's father's hair is blonde in the reverse shots.)

That's also why the characters look a bit older in the second episode than in the pilot -- because it was filmed a year later.

What's that song...

... that they use for the theme song?
"Six Pacs" by The Getaway People

... that they played at the end of the first episode?
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow", being sung by Israel Kamakwiwo'ole. It's also used on the etoys.com commercial.

... that they play in those car commercials?
"Pink Moon", by Nick Drake. And yes, it's in the Volkswagon commercials

No, Rawley Academy is completely unofficial and fan-run.

Do the actors ever post on the message board?
Not as far as I know!

Can I use the pictures from this site on my own website?
If you're going to use pictures from Rawley Academy on your own website, I prefer that you ask me first. Many of the pictures are available on the official websites, however, some of them have been obtained elsewhere and edited or scanned by me. I can almost always tell when someone has taken a picture that I spent time editing and put it on their own website. If you do use a picture from Rawley Academy, I ask that you credit and link back to this site where the picture is being used, NOT on a separate credits page. You may not use screencaps or pictures that I scanned myself on your website.

Can I use Christina's candid cast photos on my own web site?
No. Christina Radish is a professional photographer whose photos appear on Rawley Academy by special/exclusive arrangement. She owns the copyright on these photos and has specifically asked that they not appear elsewhere. This means you may not post them on your website, e-mail them to friends, or send them out on egroups or mailing lists. If you would like to share Christina's work with your friends, please provide them with a link to her gallery here on Rawley Academy: http://www.fanforum.com/rawley/gallery/gallery_cradish.shtml

Can I post the transcripts on my website?
No, the transcrips are the property of Rawley Academy. Please feel free to provide a link to them from your website, but you may not post them on your site.
