Six Pacs by The Getaway People chosen as YA theme song
Posted by Liz

"Six Pacs," the first single from Turnpike Diaries, the avidly-awaited new album from the Getaway People, has been chosen as the theme song for "Young Americans," Columbia TriStarīs new series premiering this summer on the WB. After being sent an advance of Turnpike Diaries, the producers of "Young Americans" found in "Six Pacs" the perfect summer anthem and musical I.D. for the new series. "Young Americans" will premiere on the WB Network on July 12, 2000, at 9pm (ET/PT), following "Dawson's Creek." Turnpike Diaries is in stores June 20, 2000.

Blue blood meets blue collar in "Young Americans," a provocative new drama series starring an exciting cast of newcomers including Rodney Scott (as Will Krudski), Mark Famiglietti (as Scout Calhoun), Kate Bosworth (as Bella Banks), Ian Somerhalder (as Hamilton Fleming), and Katherine Moennig (as Jake Pratt). Shot near Baltimore and set at a New England boarding school, the series unfolds with the frenzy of summer session where kids who come from different pasts and face unknown futures are thrown together to prepare for the rest of their lives.

"Young Americans" was created by screenwriter/actor Steven Antin ("Inside Monkey Zetterland," "Without You I'm Nothing," "Drive"), who serves as co-executive producer. The show is executive produced by Joe Voci and Scott Sanders for Mandalay Television in association with Columbia TriStar Television.

Turnpike Diaries is produced by Nick Sansano (Public Enemy, Sonic Youth, Brian Setzer) and Dante Ross (Everlast, Korn) and expands on the group's funky signature sound with tracks like "There She Goes," "Deceived By An Angel," "Come Love Me," and, of course, "Six Pacs." The album is the group's first new music since their self-titled debut, released in this country in April 1998. The new Getaway People album features guest performances by Rahzel from The Roots, Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band, and Daryl Jenifer from Bad Brains.

Hailing originally from Stavanger, Norway, the Getaway People have made New York City the band's home-base since the release of the group's critically-acclaimed debut. The five-piece band mingle deeply-rooted R&B and soul with modern sounds to create fluid and funky alternative rock.
