Does your PC have the current level of McAfee VirusScan and Scan Engine installed?  Follow these instructions to find out:

  1. Right click on the McAfee icon in the bottom right of your screen (red and blue shield), and click about.

  2. A screen will pop up with McAfee VirusScan at the top of the box.  Inside the box are Serial number, Virus definitions, Created on, and Scan engine.

  3. If your scan engine is less than 4.1.50 you must update your scan engine.  If your scan engine is 4.1.50 or above you do not need the update and should not be affected by the SMS/logon push, although you will still receive smaller weekly virus definition updates.

  4. If your VirusScan (found at the top of the pop up box) is less than 4.5.0 you must update the VirusScan as well.

Note: The McAfee VirusScan 4.5 already contains the current Scan engine.  Therefore, if you need to install McAfee 4.5 it is not necessary to install the Scan engine update.  If your VirusScan is at 4.5 but your Scan engine is down level you only need to install the Scan engine update.

Instructions for Updating the McAfee Scan Engine (HQ only):

Headquarters users have two different options for installing the McAfee Scan engine update.  Please use the one you are most familiar or comfortable with.  Remember you must execute the program prior to 10/25/01 to prevent a forced download.  If you experience any problems or have questions, contact the help desk at 303.673.4357 (or 3HELP).

Option1:

  1. Go to the Applications folder (usually defined as Appl on ‘Lsv-pikes-f03’ [K] or K: drive under the [My Computer] icon on the desktop or Windows Explorer).

  2. Find the application at K:\McAfee\Dat Files\Dat 4.x\SuperDAT\SDATCurrent\sdatcurr.exe. There are only two dialog boxes as part of the Superdat wizard.

  3. Click [Next] on the first.  Click [Finish] on the second.
  4. You will be prompted to re-book if it is necessary.

Option 2:
Copy sdatcurr.exe (from the application folder above) to your hard drive and execute it from there.
