Louisville 4.1.50 Scan Engine Update for U.S. Field

We are preparing to send a mandatory McAfee Scan Engine update, which is required for PC's to detect the latest viruses. The update is about 5meg and could take well over an hour to download via dialup. We are sending this notice to give all users the opportunity to run this update from a file server while connected to the WAN now to avoid a long download later. On 10/11/01 the job will be pushed for SMS users as optional for 14 days and then become mandatory at 8 AM EST on 10/25/01. On 10/20/01, the update will be forced by logon script to any users who have not yet received it. It will delay your logon on 10/25/01 so you are encouraged to install this update from a file server as soon as you can get WAN access. If you cannot get WAN access and must use dial-up, consider starting the download late in the evening while working on other things.

To see if you need (or already have) the update:

· Right click on the McAfee icon in the bottom right of your screen (red and blue shield), and click about.

· A screen will pop up with Serial number, Virus definitions, Created on, and Scan engine.

· If your scan engine is less than 4.1.50 you must update your scan engine. If your scan engine is 4.1.50 or above you do not need the update and should not be affected by this SMS/logon push, although you will still receive smaller weekly virus definition updates.

(NOTE: The sdat4165 number in the instructions below increments weekly. In other words the scan engine may read 4.1.50 or higher depending on when the update was installed.)

To update your scan engine

Click on ftp://avupdate.stortek.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x (When I go to this location there is no sdatcurr.exe file, there is an sdat4165.exe file. Which one is correct? If it is supposed to be sdatcurr.exe, then please get it added to the directory.), double click on sdatcurr.exe and download this file to a temp directory. Then execute the program from the temp directory.

Click on the link below for your local office. (When I go to the links below there is no sdat4117 or sdat4165.exe. There is an sdatcurr.exe.

This will bring up a screen showing SDATCurrent folder and a file sdat4117.exe.

From here you have two options:

1.Double click sdat4117.exe and the program will execute immediately and update your scan engine.

2. Copy sdat4117.exe to your hard drive to execute it offline. This might save you some time if you are having problems staying connected for a complete install.

Remember: You must execute the program prior to 10/25/01 to prevent a forced download.
