Business issues
All organizations have business-critical data, but for the Swedish Tax Board (RSV) this data is a matter of national importance. RSV simply cannot fail. When working with the Swedish Population Register, all tax returns and tax accounts, the servers must be well organized. It is Kristian Erhammar who ensures that all data is stored and backed up in a correct manner. He is responsible for the RSV data storage infrastructure.

A completely duplicated system
In total, RSV IT has approximately 200 HP Unix servers and 400 Windows servers for operating RSV's entire IT environment. For operating safety, RSV has created a separately clustered SAN and uses duplicated sites. "If one building is completely destroyed, we can still continue. Most of the data has been mirrored. What is not mirrored has been backed up on magnetic tape at another site. We also have long-term storage facilities on magnetic tape externally in an underground storage facility."

Two tape robots handle RSV's backups
All backups are stored using solutions from StorageTek.. The base is two tape robots, which are managed by means of a high accessibility solution (HA) for RSV's own clustered robot control system (ACSLS software). In addition, there are various tape drives. The latest addition is a number of T9940Bs, which have significantly reduced backup time. RSV is actually among the first customers in Sweden to use StorageTek's latest tape drives for high-capacity applications.
