Since its founding, GAVS has aggressively expanded its IT service offerings. Recently, the associated data growth became too much for the company’s stand-alone digital audio tapes. Simultaneously, the infrastructure had grown out in a way that prevented a comprehensive backup solution—placing the firm at odds with government regulators.

Solutions
In response to these challenges, GAVS deployed a full-blown data protection solution based on StorageTek’s L40 tape library, LTO drives, a MirrorStore replication appliance and BakBone’s NetVault restoration software application.

The StorageTek solution replaced a legacy infrastructure that would have cost the company 50 percent more to keep while delivering greater flexibility and performance. The new LAN-free backup solution also significantly reduced bandwidth consumption to save operating costs.

The new infrastructure is scalable to meet the company’s future growth. The risk of lost developer data is mitigated through policies that automatically backup all business-critical data.

Technology benefits
The solution facilitated higher levels of information and application access while establishing enterprise-wide backup policies. Tactically, the installation provides bare-metal recovery in under an hour according to a recent mock server crash test. Creating replica copies for DR purposes is much easier too, now that the data is stored centrally in a backup exchange server.
